about elskan

Elskan is a line of modern handmade kidswear established in 2010, designed and carefully curated by Amanda Zink. In recent years Elskan collections have been inspired by Amanda's travels in Central America using unique woven and embroidered textiles, ethically sourced in Mexico and Guatemala. Thoughtful details, hand dyed fabrics and hand painted prints make each piece as special as your child. Garments are created with new and repurposed fabrics in primarily natural fibres (think cotton, linen and wool) making each piece comfortable and wearable. Every item is carefully and skillfully crafted: Elskan’s Original Collection is made one piece at a time by Amanda in her home studio, while our Curated Collection is ethically made by artisans in Oaxaca and the Chiapas highlands. We believe in quality craftsmanship and spending that extra bit of time to make our garments as durable as possible, so that they may be passed down as heirloom pieces.

Amanda was born and raised in Gimli, Manitoba, Canada- a small fishing town also known as New Iceland. She first learned to sew and knit from her Amma, and Elskan pays homage to this special woman who holds a huge place in her heart. What does Elskan mean? It is an Icelandic term of endearment: like saying darling, love, or dear.
